Dental implants abroad: cost comparison Serbia vs Western Europe

Dental implants abroad are the most common reason patients from the UK, Germany, Austria and Switzerland travel to Belgrade. The maths is simple: a single implant that costs €1,700 to €2,300 at home costs €390 with us, and a full-arch All-on-4 that is quoted at €13,500 to €25,000 costs €4,500 per jaw.

This guide goes through the real numbers, what is and is not included, how many trips an implant actually takes, and where the risks are so you can decide whether going abroad makes sense for your case.

What a dental implant costs abroad vs at home

The table shows what we charge in Belgrade next to what the same treatment typically costs in the countries most of our patients come from. The Belgrade prices are our current price list. The other columns are average private prices in those countries, so your own quote may sit above or below them.

TreatmentBelgrade (us)AustriaGermanySwitzerlandUSA
Dental implant (per implant)€390€1,700€1,900€2,200€2,300
Metal-ceramic crown on the implant€200€1,000€1,150€1,200€1,350
Zirconium crown on the implant€250€1,300€1,450€1,700€2,000
All-on-4 (per jaw)€4,500€13,500€15,000€21,000€25,000
All-on-6 (per jaw)€5,500€15,500€18,500€21,000€25,000

For patients from the United Kingdom: private quotes for one implant with a crown usually land between £2,000 and £2,800, and a full-arch All-on-4 between £10,000 and £16,000 per jaw. Those are typical figures rather than a fixed price, but they put the UK in the same range as Germany.

So a complete implant tooth, implant plus zirconium crown, is €640 in Belgrade against roughly €3,000 to €4,000 at home. On three missing teeth the difference already pays for several trips.

What the Belgrade price includes

The number that matters is the one on the final invoice, not the headline price, so here is what ours covers:

  • Single implant, €390: the consultation, the implant itself and its placement under local anaesthesia. The crown that goes on top is priced separately (€200 metal-ceramic or €250 zirconium), because it is placed at the second visit after the bone has healed.
  • All-on-4, €4,500 per jaw: four implants, a fixed bridge with 10 ceramic crowns, the temporary bridge you leave with, the permanent bridge, and the follow-up check-ups. Details on the All-on-4 price page.
  • All-on-6, €5,500 per jaw: the same, with six implants and 12 crowns. Details on the All-on-6 price page.
  • Your stay: hotel accommodation in Belgrade for the duration of the therapy and airport transfers are organised by us and included for patients from abroad.

Not included: your flights, extractions or bone grafting when they are needed (we tell you at the online consultation whether they are), and conscious sedation, which is optional and priced by duration.

Why implants are so much cheaper in Serbia

The question every patient asks first, and rightly so. The difference is not the implant. Clinics in Belgrade buy implant systems from the same European and American manufacturers that clinics in Munich or Vienna use, and pay similar prices for them.

What is different is everything around the implant: rent, salaries, laboratory costs, insurance and administration. A dental technician in Belgrade earns a fraction of what one earns in Zurich, and the crown they make is priced accordingly. That is where the 70 to 80 per cent gap comes from.

The flip side is that a clinic cannot be cheap and good on volume alone. What you should check is the same thing you would check at home: who places the implants, what system they use, and what happens if something goes wrong. Our lead dentist, Dr Bojan Perduv, trained in Serbia and Portugal and completed additional programmes in implant rehabilitation in Portugal, Italy and France.

How many trips does an implant take?

This is where "dental implants abroad" differs from "crowns abroad". A crown is done in one visit. A conventional implant needs two, because the bone has to grow around the implant before it can carry a tooth.

Trip 1: placing the implant (3 to 5 days)

  • Day 1: examination and a 3D scan to confirm the plan we agreed online.
  • Day 2: extraction if the tooth is still there, and implant placement. The procedure itself takes under an hour per implant and is done under local anaesthesia.
  • Days 3 to 5: a check-up, stitches where needed, and you fly home with a temporary solution if the gap is visible.

Healing: 3 to 6 months at home

The implant integrates with the bone. You do nothing except keep the area clean and avoid smoking. Your own dentist can look at it if you want reassurance, and we are available online throughout.

Trip 2: the crown (5 to 7 days)

  • Impressions and choosing the shade.
  • The laboratory makes the crown while you are in Belgrade.
  • Fitting, bite adjustment, and a final check before you leave.

Full-arch cases are faster from the patient's point of view. With All-on-4 or All-on-6 you leave the first trip with a fixed temporary bridge and a working set of teeth, which is why All-on-4 has become the standard treatment for patients who travel.

Is it worth it after flights and time off?

Run your own numbers. A worked example for a patient from Germany who needs three implants with zirconium crowns:

GermanyBelgrade
3 implants€5,700€1,170
3 zirconium crowns€4,350€750
2 return flights€0€400 to €600
Hotel and transfers€0included
Total€10,050€2,320 to €2,520

For a single implant the saving is smaller in absolute terms, around €2,500, and some patients decide a single tooth is not worth two trips. From two implants upwards, or for any full-arch case, the decision is rarely close.

The risks of implants abroad, and how to reduce them

Implant treatment fails in a small percentage of cases everywhere in the world, most often because of smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, poor hygiene or insufficient bone. Going abroad does not change the biology. It changes two practical things: distance from the clinic, and who is responsible when there is a problem. So ask any clinic, including us:

  • Which implant system do you use, and do I get documentation? Every implant we place comes with an implant passport that records the system, size and batch, so any dentist anywhere can identify it.
  • What is the warranty and what does it cover? Ask for it in writing.
  • What happens between trips? You should have a direct line to the clinic, not a call centre.
  • Who does the follow-up? We include check-ups in the price. If you prefer a local dentist to look at the implant during healing, we send them the documentation.

Two things reduce risk more than anything else: send us a panoramic X-ray before you book so the plan is realistic, and stop smoking for the healing period.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to get dental implants in Serbia?

Yes. Dentistry in Serbia is regulated, dentists train at university for five to six years, and clinics that treat international patients work with the same implant systems used across the EU. The way to be sure about a specific clinic is the same as at home: the dentist's qualifications, real patient cases, and a written warranty.

How long do dental implants last?

At least 10 years, and with good hygiene and regular check-ups often for life. The crown on top wears sooner than the implant and may be replaced after 15 to 20 years.

Do I need a visa for Serbia?

Citizens of the EU, the UK, the USA, Canada and Australia can stay in Serbia for up to 90 days without a visa. Bring a passport valid for the length of your stay.

Does the procedure hurt?

Placement is done under local anaesthesia and is painless. Expect some swelling and mild discomfort for two to three days afterwards, managed with ordinary painkillers. Conscious sedation is available if you are anxious about dental treatment.

Can I get the implant and the crown in one trip?

For a single implant, usually not. The bone needs three to six months to integrate. For full-arch All-on-4 or All-on-6 you leave with a fixed temporary bridge on the first trip and return for the permanent one.

Next step

Send us a recent panoramic X-ray through the free online consultation. You get a treatment plan, the exact price and the number of days you need in Belgrade before you book anything. Prices for every treatment are on the implant price page, and you can read how a trip is organised on the dental tourism page.
